Is it advisable to plan a bike trip from Manali to Mcleodganj?

Take NH1….Delhi … Sonipat…Panipat…Karnal…Ambala…then …Una…Kangra…Dharamshala…Mcleodganj.
Either start very early in the morning…5 AM or it be risky driving late in the mountains.
You can stop somewhere after Ambala.
2 days are more than enough to explore are the places nearby Mcleodganj, Dharamshala.
If you want to trek to Triund…add that time.
Roads are fine….I hope you will enjoy the trip.
DONT PLAN NIGHT TIME BIKING ON THIS ENTIRE ROUTE.
What kind of clothes/shoes should I pack for a trip to Manali in January?

The height of Manali is about 13,000 ft above the sea level, which means plenty of cold climate during January. It’s cold there, take sufficient layers (Woolen/Warm Clothing). My trip was of 6 days and I’m sharing my backpack experience, accordingly, you can plan by considering your schedule and tenure over there. Let’s discuss from top to bottom
1. I took two Jackets (Leather/Normal), one Sweater/Pullover and one Hood. At least two-three pairs of Thermals (trust me thermals are life savior). Also, if the weather is not too cold, you could even skip wearing a pullover/sweater over your favorite shirt as the thermal will keep you sufficiently warm.
2. A warm Muffler will not only keep your neck warm and cozy but also give you a nice look. You can choose from a range of colors, and pair them with what you’re wearing to add a pop of color.
3. Two Jeans and two funky comfortable Legwarmers. Leg warmers look extremely smart and will definitely turn heads around. As you are in a strange city and can try something new.
4. Wollen Socks 3–4 pairs, Warm Glover atleast 1 pair and instead of Cap try a stylish Beanie.
5. High ankle shoes are good as far weather of Manali in winters is concerned, make sure you carry a comfortable pair of walking shoes to avoid sore feet and blisters. If you are planning to visit the areas having sufficiently high snowfall either you can buy or rent snow boots/gumboots from the local vendors at bargain prices.
6.One good Polarized Sunglass, which not only boost up your looks but also cut the glare and haze and will help to observe the view better as the sun is extremely bright in the mountains.
Peace!!
Few comments
- Don't carry short sleeves tops and shorts. Cold is one thing, mosquitoes and insects are the other, you have to protect yourself from
- Sunglasses will be a wasteful load unless you are going to the glaciers and snow. Then it is a must.
- A cap can be a useful addition. Wear it under the hood of your rainjacket.
- Socks and underwear need no mention.
- Don't litter the trek. Keep it clean for the others.
