It was all over the news lately.

Inaugurated on 25-Feb, 2019 by Hon’ble PM of India Narender Modi.

  • Happens to be Country’s first war memorial built by Goverment of India!
  • It's a homage to over 26,000 soldiers who have sacrificed their lives since independence.
  • The memorial is designed drawing inspiration from "Chakravuh formation".
  • The project has been executed at a cost of Rs. 176 crore and its design was selected through a global competition.
  • The names of 25,942 battle casualties have been inscribed across 16 walls
  • Spread over 40 acres in the India Gate complex
  • Six bronze murals, made by noted sculptor Ram Sutarv

The National War Memorial complex, spread across 40 acres, includes a central obelisk, an eternal flame, and six bronze murals depicting famous battles fought by the Army, the Air Force and the Navy.

The design of the National War Memorial has a layout comprising four concentric circles, namely, the 'Amar Chakra' or Circle of Immortality, the 'Veerta Chakra' or Circle of Bravery, the 'Tyag Chakra' or Circle of Sacrifice, and the 'Rakshak Chakra' or Circle of Protection.

Timings

You can visit the National War Memorial from 9 am to 6:30 pm (November to March) and from 9 am to 7:30 pm (April to October).

Note: The entry to the National War Memorial is restricted on certain days/timings.
