Okhla Bird Sanctuary (OBS)

Nestled in an area of 4 square km, Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida plays a perfect host to a number of exotic birds (more than 320 bird species) and beautiful plants. Declared a bird sanctuary in the year 1990, it is now one of the 466 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) across the country. Some of the bird species residing here include White-rumped Vulture, Baer’s Pochard, Ferruginous Pochard, Grey-headed Fish Eagle and Sociable Lapwing among others.

Apart from birds 10 species of Mammals including Nilgai, Indian Mongoose, Black-naped Hare & Jackals along with 08 species of Reptiles, 02 species of amphibians and more than 30 species of butterflies and numerous other insects are also recorded from OBS


More than 188 species of plants recorded including herbal plants recorded and out of these 121 species of herbs, 10 species of shrubs, 30 species of trees, 9 species of herbaceous climbers and 16 species of grasses


The cold has set in. It's early November. Perhaps, a little early for the migratory birds to reach here. One could spot just a few. Usually by this time the birds dot the river bank.








Tips: 


  • Wear comfortable clothes
  • Walking shoes such as comfortable snickers as the visit requires long walking distance
  • Carry some water to drink and snacks with you as there are no shops or eateries inside.
  • Avoid going alone as the place is quite deserted
  • Avoid carrying cameras. It is a restricted item during the visit.

  • From Old Delhi Railway Station 21 km by road.
  • From Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station10 km by road.
  • From Connaught Place to Botanical Garden station by Metro; 30 min travel and then 3 km on road by 3-wheeler or cycle rickshaw
  • From Air Port 25 km by road.
  • From ISBT Kashmeri Gate25 km by road.
